I’m amazed how often people click on my blog because they are searching for information on Chicago’s “The Bean” (its real name is Cloud Gate). I’ve posted this image before in color but honestly have never been happy with the look of the sky. Here’s the picture in black and white. I think I’m finally happy with the sky and background.
Leica M9-P Leica 21mm super-elmar, 7 exposure HDR
Did you use an ND filter and long exposures to eliminate people from the shot, or was there really nobody around? Another amazing shot of the cloud gate, Gage!
Thanks Ryan Roush. I get asked that a lot. I was there around 0540 therefore no body was there. I did not use any filter. It’s actually a 7 exposure HDR that was processed initially with HDR Efex Pro 2, converted to B&W in Silver Efex Pro and then further processing in Lightroom 4.
The early bird does get the worm!! HDR is among my favorite type of photography. Great edit! I wish we had more HDR worthy architecture around here!
No worries, there isn’t much in Fort Wayne also.
Lol.. I’d be ok with that. If I lived in Fort Wayne I wouldn’t have any time to take photos anyway, because I’d be too busy drooling while staring through the windows of Sweetwater!!
The black and white buildings are perfect, an awesome photo Gage!
Thanks Levi Fox!
Wow. Great picture! I set it as my FB cover photo with a link back to your site. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Chris. No problem adding to your Facebook Page. Most importantly thanks for letting me know.

Do you have this one for sale? I didn’t see it on your sale site… Would love to have a copy! It’s beautiful!
