It’s been an amazing past few weeks with the wonderful weather. Hopefully it continues. Here’s a picture I took with my Sony NEX-7 and Leica 90mm macro elmar using the Novoflex adapter. Leica glass on this already great camera, makes even more remarkable pictures. Oh, and the “pixel peaking” feature on the NEX-7 for manual focusing is wonderful and probably will be used by others because of how well it works.
About 10 weeks ago, I got an email from Dale Photo telling me that a Leica 90mm macro-elmar with the adapter was available and I was next on the list to have the opportunity to purchase it. I had the 90mm summarit which I think is very nice and under appreciated. I opted in buying the macro-elmar because I wanted a telephoto (for a Leica it’s considered telephoto) lens that could be used for portrait and also close-up (even though it’s called “macro” I don’t consider it one) photography. It’s also collapsable, making it easier to fit in your bag.
I don’t consider my self an expert and I’m definitely not a “specs” guy. If you do a google search, you will probably only find 1 or 2 reviews of this lens. It’s hard to find any real world pictures though (flickr has a few).
In the few weeks having the lens I’m extremely impressed. I don’t consider it a true “macro” because you can’t get any closer than 0.5 meters (0.7 meters without the adapter). The amount of detail and sharpness at such close proximity to your subject is simply amazing. My only wish is that it had a lower aperture (lowest f-stop is 4) so that I could shoot at higher shutter speeds and not need a flash or tripod.
P.S. All images are un-cropped. If you are interested in seeing the full-size image let me know. Also, eventually I’ll shoot a few with it attached to my Sony NEX-7. I’m pretty sure these images will also be amazing (the 35mm equivalent will be 144mm).

Recently, I was taking pictures of an old school building near my home town. It was in the middle of the day therefore the shadows were to harsh for landscape shots. Fortunately, I have neutral density filters that allow me to shoot during this time of day and allow for proper exposure of the sky.
This picture was taken of the schools chimney. It appeared ready to come falling down. Anyway, I liked the shadow of the tree on the brick.
Recently, I purchased Leica’s 90mm elmar-macro. It’s called a macro but in comparison to other macro lenses you can only get 0.5m to your subject (19 inches). I bought it for taking close-ups and for portraits. It’s razor sharp and it’s collapsable, therefore it fits in my bag perfectly.
Here is a picture taken of my niece’s dog’s paw. I love the sharpness and clarity. This is an un-cropped image.
I started this blog in May and have successfully kept blogging ever since. I’m averaging more than 1000 clicks a month now, thus the site continues to grow. I hope to continue posting weekly into the new year and hopefully will make some significant updates in the future (i.e. new logo, more reviews, and a better portfolio).
Last December I went through all my digital pictures and had about 15000 pictures in my library. After sorting through them and removing around 5000 pictures, I was left with 10000 for the new year. Over the past year I’ve taken more than 9,000 new pictures. The reason for taking more pictures is not because of this blog, it’s because of owning the Leica M9/M9-P and having a new beautiful baby girl. I look forward to shooting even more in 2012.
Below are my my favorite shots of 2011. It’s hard to narrow down to just 10 (actually 11) but here you go:
Our little girl has been eating solids for about a month. She still is a little indecisive in what she likes. I caught this picture with my Leica 90mm macro elmar in between mommy feeding her. She’s still debating what she likes most?
Here is another picture I took with my new Leica 90mm macro elmar. I have a feeling I’ll probably be posting many close up shots over the coming month because of how much I like this lens.
Recently, I purchased the Leica 90mm Macro Elmar. Leica 90mm Macro is the only macro lens currently made by Leica. When you attach the Leica Macro adapter you can shoot within .5 meters from your subject. Yes, with other dSLR’s you can shoot even closer but for the Leica M9 this is considered very close.
I purchased the lens not only for macro shooting but also for portraits. Here is one of my first shots with the lens. I think it turned out well?
P.S. This image is un-cropped (if interested in seeing the full size let me know).
