Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

Last July 4th the family and I vacationed in the Outer Banks. We were always told it had nice beaches and was very family friendly. I have to agree with that assessment. We stayed further down near Avon, NC which is away from the tourist stuff. It was a much more rural area with local shops and restaurants. Typically when we vacation we are on the go trying to see as much as possible but this time our intention was to relax and bathe in the sun. There are definitely picture opportunities and probably one of the more famous areas to take pictures is at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. I was hoping the clouds and sun would cooperate. Fortunately, the sun came out for only a few minutes and I was able to get this shot.

Repost June 2011

Barn Door

The past few weeks I’ve been busy updating my logs so that I can take my boards this year.  The next step will be gathering all the chart notes, x-rays, etc…  It will be a lot of work but will be well worth it when I’m done.

I’ve posted a picture of this barn before but not from this angle.  I really like the texture in the wood.

Here is the link to the previous picture.  Also, the previous pictures, “Rustic Barn” was recently posted on Photopeka.

ISO 400 f16 HDR

Falling apart

I don’t typically post-process pictures like this one but I didn’t have much of a choice. It was a very bright day and even at f/16 I was over exposing all my shots. This is an HDR and then used Color Efex 3 to make additional changes. It turned out fine but don’t expect to win any awards with it.

Truck 57

As mentioned in my previous post, I have not had time to update my blog the past week.  I’ve been extremely busy with work and have not had the time.  I also have not had much time to go out and shoot.

A few weeks ago I did take a few shots of an old truck that sits a few miles from my home.  I used HDR for this one, layering 7 exposures on top of one another.  It turned out pretty good.

The Shaded Creek

Here’s a picture from a few years ago when we were vacationing in Gatlinberg. I can’t count how many times I’ve been there, but every time I enjoy going into all the unique shops.

This picture was taken at a creek in the Smoky Mountains just outside of Gatlinberg.  Even though I like the scenery, there’s too much green for vibrant pictures.  This one seem to work fine.

Pickwick

Summer of 2008 was around the time that my interest in photography began to pick up.  During my 3 years prior, I was too involved with residency to have time to take pictures outside the office and surgery.  Summer of 2008 I went on the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk.  I was just starting to experiment with HDR and here is one of those pictures.  The shot was taken using 3 exposures and I hand held the camera (typically you want to use a tripod).

Old Shed

A couple years ago my brother-in-law and I were driving around near my home town looking for places to take pictures of.  We came across this old house but there were too many trees near the front of it to get a good perspective.  We walk around back and I noticed this old run down shed.  As I was setting up for the shot it began to rain.  Fortunately, my friend was able to keep my camera dry by holding an umbrella.  Personally, I was just happy that no one came up on us since we were standing awkwardly close to one another.

Pier at Dusk

I’ve posted many pictures from our trip to the Outer Banks last year.  We had a wonderful time and I was fortunate to capture many great pics.

One evening we went to the Avon Pier at sunset.  I setup underneath the pier to try to capture the waves that were coming in and the many post that held up the pier.  The picture is a 5 exposure HDR utilizing my old Canon 5d Mark II.  I really like the texture in the piers posts.

Here are other post from the Outer Banks:  The Orange Sunrise, The Empty Pier, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse
